Kunafa Pastry with sugar syrup

When I first saw the recipe of this beautiful puff pastry on Savoury & Sweet food I instantly knew, I had to make it. The photos on her page was so tempting that I could wait no more. I couldn’t get my hands on ricotta cheese. So I Just used double cream as the filling. And omg! it was one !! If you want to try it with ricotta and cream or mascarpone and double cream, please do! and let me know how it turned out in the comment box! I’m sure that would be heavenly !

Notes: For the mascarpone -cream filling, take same amount of double cream and mascarpone cheese. Soften the cheese in a bowl using a spatula first and then add this to the whipped cream, and then whip again until a peak is formed.

A delicious Arabic pastry recipe for every sweet lover.. The combination of puff pastry and cheese filling and sugar syrup is something everyone should try!

Ingredients
 1 roll Pastry sheet
 1 ½ cups Sugar syrup
For coating
 150 g Kunafa dough
 125 g Melted butter
 ¼ cup Milk
For filling
 150 ml Double cream
 3 tbsp Granulated Sugar

Directions
For filling

Add sugar and vanilla essence to the double cream

Beat the double cream and suagr until a soft peak is formed.

To prepare the pastry

Breakdown the kunafa dough into smaller pieces by hand or by blender .

Pour the melted butter into the kunafa dough and mix well.

Keep this aside.

Roll the puff pastry sheet according to the package instructions .

Cut the sheet into small, equal squares .

Dip these pastry squares in milk

Coat both sides of these dipped squares with the prepared kunafa dough.

Place them on the lined baking tray and bake it for 15-20 mins at 160C

When done, let it cool down .

Gently open the puff pastry from the side and pipe the cream filling into it.

Gently pour the the sugar syrup on top while serving .
